Adequate knowledge of the existence, the extent and the effects of FGM and child marriage is generally lacking in most communities, especially among practicing ethnic groups. NAFGEM Tanzania uses multiple approaches to ensure communities are well informed and actively engaged in the transformation of their society.

Through individual talks, meetings, seminars, workshops and community campaigns, all social groups including local community leaders, traditional leaders, religious leaders, women, men, influential community members and children are kept informed of NAFGEM's anti-FGM/child marriage message.  Public events, radio programmes and play-back videos are also used to reach the general public and trigger discussions on issues previously considered a taboo.
